Come and support the development of a Modern Museum for Strathaven and Scotland.
Who are we and what are we busy doing?
The Strathaven John Hastie Museum Trust has been formed by a group of local people who wish to see the development of a first class public Museum in Strathaven. This, despite the closure of the John Hastie Museum by the South Lanarkshire Council and the transfer of the premises to the Strathaven Dynamo AFC, for the use as a Clubhouse. The Trust wishes the Strathaven Dynamo well and is now looking for other premises in which to develop our vision for a new Strathaven Museum in a truly 21st Century form. We wish to exhibit artefacts selected from the amazing John Hastie Collection and prized items gifted or loaned by members of our community, many of which have never been seen.
Our new Museum will have themed exhibitions and digital access to the full Strathaven archive, with advice and professional support from the South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Trust.
It will cater for visitors of all ages, from near and far, including those who 'visit' via the Internet, and will offer a range of heritage interests, including family genealogy. There are members of Strathaven families all over the world!
Our team is currently discussing terms of use with owners of potential premises in Strathaven and is planning introductory exhibitions for late Spring and early Summer.
Come and share our vision. We need your help and your ideas. We need YOU!
